GARDNER—Kurt L. Mathes, 81, of Gardner, formerly of Tuscola, IL, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025 at Morris Hospital.
Born Dec. 14, 1943 in Cleveland, OH, Kurt was the son of Walter Mathes Jr. and Gladys (Nicholl) Mathes. He was raised in Lakewood, OH, graduated from Lakewood High School, class of 1961, and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering at Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, OH. On May 29, 1969, Kurt married Betty Lou Griffin in Tuscola, which they would call their home for the next 19 years until they relocated to Gardner in 1988.

ELWOOD—Georgia Sue Sewall, 94, of Elwood, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024 in Elm Grove, WI.
Born Jan. 29, 1930 in Chicago, Georgia was a daughter of Alois and Vivian (Millard) Haid. She was raised and educated in Downers Grove, IL, and on June 24, 1950 she married Robert F. Sewall in Chicago.

WILMINGTON—John P. Marshall, 81, of Wilmington, and formerly of Chicago, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born May 18, 1943, in Chicago, John Patrick was a son to John and Sophie (Strzemp) Marshall. He was raised and educated in Chicago and went on to honorably serve in the United States Army. John worked as a surveyor with Local 130 until retirement. He enjoyed photography, music, and collecting coins, rocks, gemstones, and fossils.

MORRIS—Lois A. Newell, 92, of Morris, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 at Serenity Care in Morris.
Born May 3, 1932 in Deer Park, IL, Los Arlene was the daughter of Sigurd and Delia (Voll) Ostby. She was raised and educated in Serena, IL where she graduated from high school with the class of 1950. On June 28, 1960 Lois married Elmer Newell in Morris where together they built their home and raised their family.

MORRIS—Mildred "Millie" Margaret Dyer (née Weitz), 83, of Morris, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 19, 2025 at Arcadia Nursing Home.
Born July 31, 1941, in Morris, Millie was the daughter of Herb and Genevieve “Toots” Weitz. She was a graduate of Morris Community High School with the class of 1959. She went on to further her education at Illinois State University, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

COAL CITY—Robert Joseph Walsh, 72, of Coal City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at his home.
Born Oct. 26, 1952, in Joliet, Bob was the son of Kenneth and Elsie (Unger) Walsh. He was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 1970. On June 24, 1978, he married the love of his life, Susan at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they shared 46 years of marriage.

WILMINGTON—Gregory G. Fisher, 75, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025 at OSF St. Clare Medical Center in Princeton, IL.
Born on June 24, 1949, in St. Paul, MN, Greg was a son of George Harrison and Janet (Dike) Fisher. He spent his early years in Ivanhoe, MN, before moving with his family to Fort Madison, IA, in 1963. There, Greg graduated from Aquinas High School.
