Coal City to wrestle for championship!

Back-to-back victories for the Coal City wrestlers means they'll get their shot at defending the 2023 Class 1A state dual team title at 6 p.m. tonight (Saturday).

On Friday they upended Riverdale 54-13 in the quarterfinal round and this morning they took care of Vandalia 42-22 to advance to the championship match at Grossinger Auto Arena in Bloomington.

The Coalers are awaiting the winner of the 11 a.m. match between Roxana and Woodstock Marian. Coal City defeated Roxana during the regular season 45-25 but lost to Marian 32-31 during the Abe's Rumble on Dec. 30. That loss was one of only five for the Coalers as they have 37 victories.

The championship and third place matches will start at 6 p.m.
