Joan Wojtonik

WILMINGTON—Joan Mary Wojtonik, 80, of Wilmington, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019 at her home.
Born Jan. 2, 1939 in Chicago, Joan was a daughter of Samuel Ennis and Florence Cease. She was raised and educated in Chicago, and on July 9, 1960 she married Phillip Wojtonik. Joan and Phillip raised their family in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago, and she was employed for many years as a sales associate with the Archer Avenue Big Store.
She enjoyed going to garage sales or shopping at thrift stores looking for a good find, which she affectionately referred to as “Going Junkin.” Joan was a social butterfly and adored all children and especially babies, who held a special place in her heart. She liked to dance and listen to music, and looked forward to playing poker with friends and family.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Phillip Wojtonik; three children: Phillip (Cathryn) Wojtonik, Nancy (Tom) Bradley and Pamela (LeRoy) Vega; eight grandchildren: Nicole, Thomas, Kylie, P.J., Michael, Richard, Roy and Lauren; seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings: Emmy Melva, Mabel, Bob, Phoebe, Lloyd, Samuel, Nola Grace, Pearl, and her twin sister, Jean.
Per Joan’s wishes, flameless cremation rites are being accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd., in Wilmington from 12 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 3 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Wee White Kirk Cemetery in Wisconsin.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Joan’s memory to American Cancer Society.
