Morris man dies in early morning crash

Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan, along with the Grundy County Sheriffs Department, is investigating the traffic death of a 27-year-old Morris man.
Sheriffs deputies and the Coal City Fire Protection District we’re called to the area of Reed and Gorman roads just before 4 a.m. this morning (Sunday) for a single vehicle crash.
A vehicle was found upside down in the deep ditch.
Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was westbound on Reed Road, approximately one half mile east of Gorman Road, when it began to travel off the north side of the roadway and then back across the road landing on its roof in the ditch. The ditch had significant water in it.
Two female passengers were able to get out of the vehicle and walked to a nearby home.
Callahan pronounced Tony P. Rutherford dead at the scene at 4:30 a.m. An examination will take place later today.
The two unidentified females were transported to Morris Hospital for treatment.
