Robert Scamen

BRAIDWOOD—Robert “Bob” Scamen, 84, of Braidwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 at home with his family by his side.
Born Aug. 10, 1934 in Morris, he was the son of Ernest and Mae (nee Edgar) Scamen. Bob attended Morris Schools and served honorably in the United States Army from April 1957 to April 1959.  He was a 50 year member of Local 597 Pipefitters and Welders and a lifetime member of the Braidwood Masonic Lodge #704 serving as Master in 1987. In 1980 in St. Johns’bury, VT Bob married Nancy (nee Cukla) who he always said was “the love of my life” and together they built their little piece of paradise in Braidwood which became the epicenter of life for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved country music, performing magic tricks for the kids, fishing and attending various shows with his 1930 Model A Roadster PU, 1948 Whizzer motorbike and 1954 Farmall Super MTA tractor all of which he lovingly rebuilt over the years.  
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Nancy Scamen; sons, Rob (Kay) Scamen, of Graniteville, S.C. and Scott Scamen, of Braidwood; daughter, Rene Layman, of Plano, TX; eight grandchildren: Blake Bermel, of Austin, TX; Casey Scamen, of Coal City; Spencer (Samantha) Scamen, of Australia; Lindsey (Zac) Kramer, of Plano, TX; Whitney (Patrick) Bohac, of Dallas, TX; Billie (Steve) Hanrahan, of Waxahachi, TX; Chad Scamen, of Ottawa and Scotty Scamen, of Braidwood; nine great-grandchildren: Steven and Lexi Hanrahan, Aubrianna, Palmer and Bellamy Bohac, Atley and Knox Kramer and Laila and Kiah Scamen; sisters, Phyllis (Robert) Lund and Darlene Sing, both of Morris; brother, Dale (Darlene) Scamen, of Ventura, CA and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bill and Pat Karda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Doug Scamen; brother, David Scamen and two infant great granddaughters, Kayden and Payton Thomas.  
Funeral services will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at 10 a.m.  Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.  The visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 20, from 3-8 p.m.
