The VAC and VA continue to support Veterans as they learn more about their benefis

The Edward Hines Jr. VA Medical Center Outreach Team, along with the Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commission, will continue its outreach visits at the Channahon Village Hall, 24555 S. Navajo Dr., Channahon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

The Grundy County VAC and Hines Outreach coordinator can answer questions and assist with enrollment in VA health care, service connected disability claims and burial benefits to name a few benefits available to honorably discharged veterans.

This event is free and open to all veterans.

If a veteran is interested in enrollment in the VA Health Care System, bring a copy of their DD214 and a government issued photo ID. For veterans who do not have a copy of their DD 214, the Grundy County VAC can assist in obtaining one. One may be eligible for VA health care benefits if they served in the active military, naval, or air service and didn't receive a dishonorable discharge.

Those who enlisted after Sept. 7, 1980, or entered active duty after Oct. 16, 1981, must have served 24 continuous months or the full period for which you were called to active duty. There are other conditions under which you might be eligible, attending these outreach events will allow you to discuss your situation with the enrollment coordinator directly.

“We are fortunate to have the federal and state resources available to veterans in Grundy County. Having these outreach events is just one way we work to educate veterans and their families.” said Ken Buck, Superintendent of the Grundy County VAC.

Those who are unable to attend the outreach events can learn more about their eligibility by contacting the Grundy County VAC at 815-941-3152 or vac@grundycountyil.gov
