COAL CITY—John W. Skaggs, 66, of Coal City, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 at Morris Hospital.
Born Jan. 17, 1959 in Carbondale, IL, John William was the son of Carolyn (Whittington) and the late John M. Skaggs. He was raised in Pekin, IL and graduated from Pekin Community High School with the class of 1977. On July 14, 1979, John married his high school sweetheart, Karen Suzanne Massey, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin. Together they settled in Pekin, where they established themselves and started their family.

DIAMOND— Jeffery Keck, 75, of Diamond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025 with his family at his side.
He was born on June 20, 1950, the son of the late Helen (Mantel) and William "Bill" Keck. He grew up in Joliet, and was proud to be a graduate of Joliet Catholic Academy, Class of 1968.

DIAMOND—Dalton James Meyer, 29, of Diamond, passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his side on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
He was born on Aug. 14, 1996 in Joliet, to Eric Meyer and Jennifer Galbreath-Pedraza. Dalton grew up in Coal City with his two sisters, made many lifelong friends along the way and graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 2015. He worked as a detailer and tech assistant at Camping World in Braidwood.

Mary Bell

DWIGHT—Mary Teresa Bell, 60, of Dwight, and formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, Sept. 24, 2025, at the Lightways Inpatient Unit in Joliet surrounded by her seven loving siblings. She was lovingly called home to be with her parents.
Born May 15, 1965, in Joliet, Mary was the daughter of William Ray and Rosanna (Purcell) Bell. She was raised in Wilmington, attended St. Rose Parochial School, and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1983.

JOLIET—Frank William Rasmusson, 82, of Joliet, departed peacefully in hospice with his family and friends by his side on Sept. 22, 2025. He was born on Sep. 11, 1943 in Joliet, to Gladys (Smith) Buck and Frank Buck, later adopted by Martel Rasmusson.

WILMINGTON—Lawrence Arthur “Larry” Zykwa, 87, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025 at his home. Born Oct. 27, 1937 in Chicago, to the late Leonard and Bernice (nee Schuknecht) Zykwa. Larry was a Union Electrical Inspector and Building Inspector for Alsip, IL. Member of the IBEW Local 134 for nearly 70 years. Larry was also a member and President of the Alsip Lyons Club, member of the Knights of Columbus, former board member of Shadow Lakes, former board member of the Braidwood Planning Committee. He also coached little league for more than 10 years.

CUSTER PARK—Michelle Bumpous, 51, of Custer Park, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. Born Nov. 27, 1973 in Joliet, she was the daughter of Donald and Judith (née Wren) Bumpous.

Lois Virginia Reese

GODLEY—Lois Virginia Reese, 94, of Godley, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025 at her home. Born Nov. 23, 1930 in Danville, IL, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence R. and Hazel F. (Johnson) Reese. Lois retired from the United States Postal Service as a city postal carrier in Downtown Chicago. She was known to be very generous, but yet a fiercely competitive domino and card player (especially with her siblings), combined with sharp wit even through her last moments. Some of her hobbies included reading, quilting, sewing, and puzzles.

LeRoy A. Bergman

FLORIDA—LeRoy A. Bergman, 92, of Moore Haven, FL, and formerly of Braidwood, passed away peacefully at his home on Sept., 19, 2025. He was born in Morris on Feb. 9, 1933 to Axel and Ellen Bergman, one of their 10 children.
LeRoy graduated from Reed-Custer High School and proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Korean War. He married Lois Armstrong in Symerton, IL on Dec. 27, 1952. Together, they raised four children: LuAnn Cole, Terri Jones, Jill Hackl and Daniel Bergman.
