Although Braidwood has a reputation for being a rough town, the other towns of the coal field were no different. Last week we looked at the very beginnings of Braceville, and the coming of crime to that corner of the coal fields. The date is August 1, 1894.
The miners and railroad men had just settled their four-month long strike. Men were going back to work, so they celebrated, a little too much. Climb aboard the way back machine for 140 years ago.
