ComEd finding ways to help replace Coal City’s tree canopy

As part of the village of Coal City’s observance of Arbor Day, ComEd will be giving away young sapling(s) for residents to plant within their yard.
The tree giveaway will take place Friday, April 27 at the Assumption Berst Hall located at the southwest corner of Carbon and Kankakee streets, one block east of Broadway.
ComEd sponsored a sapling (2’ starter trees) distribution in 2016 and this event is similar in that residents will be allowed to pick up an assortment of saplings to plant within their yard. This year, four different species will be handed out on a first come, first served basis. The species are Eastern Redbud, Sweet Bay Magnolia, Dogwood, and Buttonbush. These saplings are provided at no cost to area residents due to the generosity of ComEd who is assisting the community with replacing its tree canopy.
The sapling distribution will begin at 10 a.m. and is planned to end by 1p.m. or until supplies have been exhausted.
ComEd’s participation in Arbor Day will also find over 100 trees being planted throughout the village due to a program they are participating in with the village, Trees Forever, Spring Grove Nursery and iTrees.
