Wilm Cheer team 5th in state

Three cheers for the Wilmington Cheer Team which finished fifth in state in the Small School division of the IHSA State cheer competition. The Wilmington Cheer team scored 90.50 points during the prelims, good enough for fourth place behind Breese Central (94.06), Johnsburg (91.6) and Columbia (90.76). They advanced to the finals on Saturday where they did their routine just before noon and ended up with fifth place overall. Only the three teams are presented with state trophies. Reed-Custer also competed on Friday in the prelims, placing 21st but did not advance.

 

Coalers play Monday for a shot at state

The Coal City boys baseball team is one victory away from playing in the Class 3A state finals with Saturday's sectional victory over Joliet Catholic.

The Coalers (34-5) will battle St. Ignatius Chicago (15-9) at 5 p.m. Monday at Standard Bank Stadium in the Crestwood Super Sectional for a shot at playing at Route 66 Stadium in Joliet starting Friday.
