Rebounding Comets will use height to their advantage

    The Lady Comet basketball team finished one win away from .500 in their past season.    This season they hope to use their height and experience to improve that record.
    The Lady Comets put together a 15-16 record while going 6-5 in the Interstate Eight Conference.
    Reed-Custer is coached by Nick Klein for the eighth year. He is assited by Jessica Johnston and Shelby Maupin.

Lady Comets open season with own tournament

    Tip-off for the Reed-Custer varsity girls basketball season will be on their home court when they host an eight-team tournament.
    “This is the first year for the Classic,” said R-C athletic director Chuck Anderson. “We’ve been looking at it for several years. We wanted to host a girls varsity tournament since we started a varsity girls basketball shootout this past summer. We wanted to continue with that and  host a tournament. We have been talking about it for a couple of years and we finally got it going this year.”

Reed-Custer Soccer Club earns hardware

    Three Reed-Custer Club soccer teams competed in the Morris Tournament, earning a trophy this past weekend.
    In U8, Reed-Custer started with Seneca, taking a 4-1 loss in that match. They got one back as they shutout Manhattan, 3-0 to take third in the tournament.
    In U10,Reed-Custer took one out of two games from Ottawa to earn third. Ottawa stole the first game, 4-3 but then Reed-Custer came back to take the final game, 4-2.

Varsity Lady Panthers suffer first loss after a 10-0 run

    The varsity Lady Panther basketball team fell to Channahon, taking a 24-18 defeat on the road.
    Sam Sprimont had a big night as she led the team in both rebounds with six and points  with seven.
    Brooklyn Harding led the team in steals and also contributed three points.
    Caelan Cole drained a three while Grace Moyers added three points as well.
    Laci Newbrough added a bucket as they had all hands on deck.    The lower level girls were able to edge  Channahon, 23-21.

Comets fall but have a lot to look forward to

    The Reed-Custer football team may have suffered a 49-7 drubbing to Sandwich Friday night, but Comet coach Gavin Johnston is optimistic about the future of his program.
    While he laments the loss of a talented group of seniors, he’ll welcome back 15 juniors and a handful of sophomores who gained varsity experience.

Varsity Jr. Comets make history by winning the Super Bowl

    The Varsity Jr. Coemts cruised to a big blowout victory to win the Super Bowl Saturday.
    The Jr. Comets shutout Plano, 25-0 to complete a 10-0 season as the first R-C Jr. Comet team to ever win a Super Bowl title.
    Lucas Foote fueled the Comets, scoring two of their four touchdowns. Nick Cieslak scored the other touchdown as the offense was on their game.
    The defense came up with a big defensive shutout while Gavin Bruciak came up with a pick six to give the Varsity Comets just what they needed to win.

Coalers upset Lisle, Wildcats get their win, Comets done in by Indians

The Coal City varsity football team never trailed Friday night when Lisle, who had yet to lose a game, came to town. The Coalers built a 24-14 lead by half-time before holding the Lions scoreless the final two quarters to improve to 8-1 overall and raise their seed in next week's playoffs.

Coal City quarterback Payton Hutchings  found Austin Pullara from 12 yards out with 5:03 left in the first quarter to go up 6-0. Coaler running back Daniel Jezik plunged into the end zone from one yard out to make it 12-0 Coalers 5:45 2q.

Comets want to go out with a win

    The varsity Comets are out of the football playoffs, they know that. They knew that when they lost to Wilmington a week ago. They might have lost to Coal City Friday, 14-0, but they fought hard the entire game against the I-8 Large conference champs, showing their best defensive effort yet.
    At 2-6 the Comets are out of it but they would love the chance end the season with on a high note by defeating their last opponent, Sandwich.

Lady Comet spikers look to regroup on eve of regionals

    The Reed-Custer volleyball team was unable to get past the Sandwich Indians (13-12) Thursday night, falling in two games.
    The varsity Lady Comets (7-20-1 overall) were unable to get their offense going in the first game as the Lady Indians cruised to a double digit victory.
    In the second set, the Lady Comets kept it close but just could not finish them off, dropping both sets, 11-25, 23-25.
    Maggie Meyr led the offense with five kills, an ace and three digs, defensively.

Jr. Comets varsity on to Super Bowl

    The Varsity Jr. Comets are headed to the Super Bowl on Saturday in Plano.
    The Junior Comets cruised to a 45-0 victory over Sandwich (3-6) Saturday in the second round of playoffs at Manteno.
    Reed-Custer, the No. 1 seed, is 9-0 and will play Plano (8-1) on Saturday at 5 p.m.  in Plano.
