    The Comet kickers started the first round of the Herscher Regional with a bang, knocking off Clifton Central, 3-0 Saturday at home.

    Reed-Custer football players know they are out of the playoff picture with a 2-5 record and only two games to go. So they have nothing to lose Friday night by going all out against the rival Coal City Coalers.
    If there was a time for the Comet seniors to show their character, it will be Friday in front of a Senior Night crowd and with determination that these guys are not quitters no matter what their record or scoreboard may read.

    The regular season is nearing its end and the playoff picturing is coming into fruition with the volleyball sub-sectionals starting this coming week for Wilmington, Reed-Custer and Coal City volleyball teams.
    The Lady Comets (6-16-1, 1-6 conference) will have a new mindset when they enter the Class 2A Seneca Regional  Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Too little, too late for Comets as Wilmington rolls, Another Coaler shutout

Wilmington' varsity football team scored 38 unanswered points over the first three quarters before Reed-Custer got on the board in a 38-13 routing of the Comets Friday night.

The loss eliminates the Comets' hopes of reaching the playoffs while the Wildcats improve to 4-3 overall and  still have a chance.

 

Lady Comets’ defense sweeps Streator

    The Reed-Custer volleyball team snapped a brief losing streak, getting the sweep of Streator as all three levels won last Tuesday.
    Defense was the name of the game for the Lady Comet varsity squad as they had three players reaching double digits in digs, securing the win, 25-15, 27-25.
    Alexis Cieslak was the leader with 16, Cherry had 15 and Maddi Tiangco added 11 more as they had the defensive support they needed from the get-go.

Comets know their season is in jeopardy against Wilmington

    It is a carbon copy of last year as Reed-Custer’s football playoff hopes will be on the line Friday night against Wilmington. The same could be said for the Wildcats who are 3-3 and can’t afford a loss.
    The Comets will be hosting the Wildcats and will have their hands full with Wilmington.
    The two teams will have a lot to play for as it should shape up to be a tough I-8 Small battle.

Comets nearly upset Lisle, Coalers and Wildcats win

Reed-Custer came close in pulling off the upset of the season, scaring undefeated Lisle in a 24-21 overtime loss.

The Comets owned a 21-7 lead in the fourth against the only team in the Interstate Eight with a perfect record. Reed-Custer got its touchdowns in the air with a pair of passes from quarterback Josh Loomis to AJ Cherry and a third to Nick Mitchell, silencing the Lisle home fans at Benedictine University field Friday.

Joliet Slammers win Fronteir championship

    The Joliet Slammers are the champions of the Frontier league.
    They bested the Washington Wild Things in five games, thanks to early scoring and great pitching.
    They started Nate Antone in Game 5 on Tuesday of last week, who got into trouble within the first couple innings, surrendering two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out four.
